A group of students at Hewlett-Woodmere public school in New York are preparing for First Tech Challenge (FTC) using the UDS Enterprise VDI & vApp connection broker. 23 elementary-school students, ages 8-10, are being taught by the Team Roboboogie to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format with students from other schools around the world.

VDI and Hyperconvergence: a match made in heaven

VDI allows for full hardware independence, simplicity and security, and the ability to centralize management and simplify endpoint deployments. Deploying a desktop virtualization infrastructure requires a SAN (storage area network) to host the virtual disks, a virtualization platform with the necessary extensions to handle remotization protocols, and several additional services like snapshot management, backups, disaster recovery and user/desktop management.

The students of Systems and Computer Engineering and the Computer Science Degree of the Universidad Tecnológica of El Salvador (UTEC) are using the UDS Enterprise connection broker in the last stage of their studies to learn how to deploy and manage virtual desktops and applications. “I chose UDS Enterprise because of the large number of hypervisors it supports, I think it is very important that future professionals are aware of all the alternatives that exist and that they learn to select the most effective and efficient for each project”, explained Víctor Cuchillac, Professor at the UTEC, the largest private University in El Salvador.
