Free Software Conference at UGR

The University of Granada will hold the Free Software Conference next Thursday and Friday, where different educational centers will exchange experiences on the use of this type of technologies in teaching, research and management.

Alternative solutions to proprietary tools will be presented at this event, and attendees will lay the foundations to create future collaborations related to Free Software in Education.

The conference will begin on Thursday 27th with the presentation “Learning and teaching with KDE software” and throughout the two days topics such as “The Free Software business” or “Uses in research and dissemination” will be discussed. In addition, interesting tools such as the free educational platform OpenSWAD.org or SageMath for research and practical teaching will be presented.

Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in tutorials that dig into interesting and lesser known aspects of Free Software, like the use of Python for teaching and research. There will also be workshops on specific programs, such as OpenFOAM, which is used to perform simulations in fluid mechanics or Auto-Multiple-Choice: a tool for automatic exams.
