The City Council of A Coruña moves to Free Software

by | Nov 22, 2017

The Association of Galician Free Software Companies (AGASOL in Spanish) is carrying out a migration to Free Software for the City of A Coruña. This is the first step to evaluate and plan the migration process of this Consistory, which is aware of the benefits of using this type of software.

The intention of this agency is “to make available to the citizens tools that are not only more transparent and accessible to citizens but which can also be modified and improved by that same citizens”, explains the councilor of Participation and Democratic Innovation, Claudia Delso, who also affects the “savings for the municipal coffers that this migration would mean”, thanks to the abolition of license fees.

This initiative also aims to increase productivity and facilitate technological sustainability, guaranteeing interoperability through the use of open standards.

This project is the result of a collaboration agreement between the City Council and AGASOL, which includes actions for training and promotion of Free Software and Open Source, and the use of open standards in the administration.
