New vCenter Server migration tool

by | Sep 16, 2016

Migrating from one vCenter to another has been so far a hard task, since it was pretty difficult to deploy and configure a new vCenter Server while keeping the existing one to perform the migration. When performing this task, one should take into account many factors, as the sieze of the environment, the number of solutions using vCenter Server as an endpoint and hoy physical and virtual networks are configured. Drafting the full migration of a virtual infrastructure plan may also take a long time.

But now, it's going to be far more easy, since VMware has announced the release of vSphere 6.0 Update 2m (Migration), an automate tool to migrate from a vCenter Server 5.5 Windows to vCenter Server Appliance 6.0 Update 2.

This new tool reduces time and effort while minimizing human error, as it deploys the new vCenter Server Appliance automatically, migrates vCenter Server configurations, los inventory, el historical data and Windows based vCenter Server identity.

In vSphere 6.0 Update 2m there are no partches or updates, just the migrating tool. It features a usefulmigration assistant that pre-checks the vSphere environment, displaying current configuration, registered extensions, destination configuration, and migration settings. It also adds a data transport mechanism between the source Windows vCenter Server 5.5 and the target vCenter Server Appliance 6.0 Update 2.
