Its name gives many clues about its functionalities. AlmaLinux 8.3 nods to what would have been the next version of the Red Hat distro, CentOS 8.3. It is a binary level clone of RHEL 8.3 and is ready to use in multiple environments, be it full installations, virtual machines, cloud, servers, containers… There are official images to cover almost any computing need.
It is a project backed by a team with extensive experience since it is the work of the creators of CloudLinux OS, a distro derived from CentOS that dates back more than ten years. On their website, they assure that it will have a very long support period and that they will soon announce the compatibility with ARM. In addition, they highlight that it is Open Source, free and that it has been designed for enterprise use.
AlmaLinux 8.3 is now available for download, and they have also released a script that makes it easy to migrate from CentOS, RHEL and Oracle Linux. Links to both items can be found in this post on the official website.
