Raspberry Pi 400: a VDI connection client for $70

by | Nov 9, 2020

The Raspberry Pi Foundation has launched a new device with which they once again have shaken up the market. It is a compact keyboard that incorporates a purpose-built board based on Raspberry Pi 4 and costs $70. They have also launched for $100 a kit that includes a mouse, microSD card with its own installed operating system, an HDMI cable, power supply and a guide for beginners. You only need a screen to start using this affordable computer, which can be used as connection client to the virtual desktops and applications managed and deployed by UDS Enterprise.

This new device is called Raspberry Pi 400 and is governed by an ARM Broadcom quad-core 64-bit processor. It has 4GB RAM, USB 2.0, 3.0, USB-C, Gigabit Ethernet and GPIO ports. It also features low-power bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 5, dual-screen output, and the ability to lay 4K video.

UDS Enterprise is fully compatible with this minicomputer and there is a custom UDS image for Raspberry Pi 4 based on its official operating system. You only have to install it on your device to start running Windows and Linux virtual desktops and applications, without the need for any additional software.

These devices are especially popular in the education sector due to their versatility, simplicity and low cost. Various educational organizations use them successfully to access their VDI platforms with UDS Enterprise, such as Chimborazo Higher Polytechnic College in Ecuador.

In addition to Raspberry Pi, UDS Enterprise supports a long list of low-cost connection clients. Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools in Nassau County (New York) use Chromebooks to access virtual Autodesk CAD applications managed and deployed with UDS Enterprise. Also, this connection broker can be used with a wide range of Zero and Thin Clients.
