LXD, the container-based hypervisor lead by Canonical, beats KVM in density and speed. The company published benchmarks showing that LXD runs guest machines 14.5 times more densely and with 57% less latency than KVM.
The target platform for this analysis was an Intel server running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. The testing involved launching as many guest instances as possible with competing hypervisor technologies, LXD and KVM.
Canonical announced a three year partnership with Ericsson to drive innovation around IT cloud and telecom cloud solutions, the latter in line with OPNFV. The move will help both organizations respond to increasing demand from telecoms companies and enterprises for more flexible, scalable options to meet the ever-growing appetite for new services.
Under the terms of the partnership, Ericsson will deploy Ubuntu as the host OS for Ericsson’s Cloud System platform. Ubuntu Server OS will underpin Ericsson’s offering for its telecommunications network, internal data center and cloud computing customers; giving customers flexibility and assisting the global adoption of OpenStack-based cloud technologies.
Ubuntu’s new file system for LXC, UDS Enterprise’s full support for XenServer and the presentation by our team at CRUE-TIC & RedIRIS VDI Conference were the most read posts during the past weeks.

Canonical has introduced LXCFS, its own file system for LXC, which will be released with the next version of Ubuntu 15.04 Vivid Verbet.
It will be available with Apache 2.0 license and it will provide the possibility to view Linux virtual containers and CPU or memory, among other information.
In addition, it will allow to boot LXC on Ubuntu in processes with and without privileges, thus adding some level of security.
If you want to try it before the next Ubuntu version is released, you can download the code on GitHub.
Canonical makes things easier for developers launching Ubuntu Developers Tool Center. This project aims at providing the community with the most requested programming and developing tools. And its goal is really ambitious: they want that Ubuntu becomes the best platform for developers.
For the moment, developers can download the latest Android Studio version together with Android SDK, and afterwards all the tools for web developers, Dart language or Go will be available too.
