Students will only have to access the Virtual Campus of the University through a web browser. There, depending on the school in which each one is enrolled, they will find the appropriate software to carry out their work in the same way as if they were at the campus. With the advantage that it will be accessible at any time, any day of the week, so that they can plan their studies with more flexibility.
The decision to take advantage of desktop virtualization with UDS Enterprise to maintain social distance when carrying out academic practices is not something new in this university center. It has been determined by the optimal experience they had with this technology during the months that the university was closed by the health alert.
With the closure of the University due to the state of alarm, they took advantage of the fact that UDS Enterprise had been implemented to quickly offer students the majority of the necessary software to carry out the practices online. In this way, the students, in addition to not having to travel to the University, were able to access the software they need using any device 24 hours a day.
Thanks to their VDI infrastructure, UC3M was able to immediately adapt to the complicated situation caused by the expansion of the Coronavirus. Since they had UDS Enterprise already implemented, it was very quick and easy to adapt to the needs of the teachers so that they could continue teaching their practices. The IT department was able to attend their requests practically on the same day, so that the students were able to keep up with the classes without interruptions.
To successfully meet the larger number of access requests, they expanded the resources of their VDI infrastructure. In addition, they increased the number of UDS Enterprise tunnels to balance the load through various access routes and avoid possible bottlenecks due to increased demand. With these simple adjustments they solved one of the challenges that the university faced with the imposition of lockdown: overnight students had to go from studying at the campus to doing it from home.
Since March 11, more than 6,000 UC3M students have used virtual desktops managed and deployed by UDS Enterprise to continue their training.
The platform is working seamlessly. They have trusted UDS Enterprise for more than 10 years and that is why they did not hesitate to bet on this software to offer all students the possibility of take their courses online while the University was closed. The experience has been very satisfying and, therefore, for the coming course, they will increase the resources of the platform so that students do not have to go to computer rooms.
