The VSCodium project was created with the aim of providing an alternative free from these tracking systems that send information about user activity to Microsoft. It is a fork of the popular code editor that provides binaries ready for use and with no trace of Microsoft telemetry.
VSCodium builds are for Windows, macOS, and Linux, and support Git, JavaScript, TypeScript, and Node.js.
At first glance, there does not seem to be a difference between the two software. The appearance is identical, it works the same and it incorporates all the functionalities of the original project. It is compatible with its extensions, it is also published under the MIT license and it is being updated following the Microsoft releases.
One of its few drawbacks is that although it has Deb and RMP installers, it is necessary to manually configure the repositories for these formats.
