The first step to fix these issues is monitoring the VDI infrastructure performance in order to identify the source of the problem. In some cases, the only way to solve it is upgrading the hardware component causing the problems, but there are other fixes that can help to mitigate boot storms effects:
–Power up virtual desktops in batches before workers start using desktops. In this way the number of simultaneous boots decreases therefore decreasing resources consumption.
-Using network interface card (NIC) teaming. This is an appropiate solution when the network causes the performance bottleneck. It is also recommended to free up bandwith for virtual desktops moving traffic to a different NIC.
-Make changes in the storage system. When IOPS storage is to blame, the issue can be fixed using SSD drives to improve performance. Other alternatives are to fine tune virtual desktops to minimize storage IOPS or change storage configuration.
