The Fedora Project announced the availability of Fedora 33 Beta, the latest release of this version before the stable one, which is expected to be launched at the end of October.
Among the new features of Fedora 33 Beta, in the official announcement the use of BTRFS as the default filesystem is highlighted. This change introduces user-friendly features such as transparent compression and “copy-on-write”. At the moment, only basic features are incorporated, but little by little more advantages of this system will be added.
Fedora 31 is now available for download. One of its most outstanding new features is Fedora Toolbox, a simple tool to start and manage personal workspace containers, which allows developments in an isolated environment. According to Matthew Miller, the project leader, this containerized workflow “is vital for users of the ostree-based Fedora variants such as CoreOS, IoT and Silverblue“, although it is also useful in any workstation or server system.
Earlier this year Red Hat announced the purchase of CoreOS, a developer company, among other technologies, of Container Linux. This acquisition has laid the foundations for a new project: Fedora CoreOS.
The very same week Fedora 23 is going to be released, the Fedora Project has announced Fedora Developer Portal, a website to help developers working on projects with Fedora as main operating system or inside a virtual machine.
In this new portal they’ll find the guidelines to get an install development tools, language runtimes and databases. They will also learn different distribution and deployment options using COPR and OpenShift.
Fedora 22 is now available for download. This new version of the Linux distro sponsored by Red Hat and supported by our VDI connection broker for Windows and Linux UDS Enterprise, incorporates new features for cloud, server and workstation deployments.
On the one hand, Fedora 22 Cloud incorporates new features and images designed to help developers and users use Fedora in public and private clouds. Among other things, the Fedora Project has updated its Docker base image and set of Dockerfiles to help users make use of Fedora 22 in containers.
