Microsoft Corp. has confirmed that it has reached an agreement to buy GitHub, the most popular software development platform to date, used by more than 28 million developers to exchange knowledge, share and collaborate on different projects.
The latest version of the Canonical OS, Ubuntu 18.04 LTS is now available for Windows 10 in the Microsoft Store. The execution of this Linux operating system as an application in Windows 10 offers the possibility of running a complete Ubuntu terminal from Windows. In this way, tools such as git, ssh, apt and bash can be easily used from said OS.
Microsoft continues to take steps to get closer to Linux supporters. The latest surprise was the announcement of Azure Sphere, an operating system , based on Linux, whose objective is to improve the security of the Internet of Things.
Microsoft has added Linux and macOS support to its quantum development kit, which until now only supported its own operating system, Windows. In addition, the kit now includes new Open Source libraries and integration with Python.
Microsoft has officially released SQL Server 2017 with versions for Windows, Linux and Docker image. This is yet another step for the Redmond giant in its plans to integrate its server technologies with the Open Source operating system.
