Management of user profiles in VDI environments

Management of user profiles in VDI environments

A few weeks ago we talked about Hace unas semanas tratamos en nuestro blog la issues in the management of user profiles in VDI environments. Today we are going to discuss the most appropiate solutions.

One solution is the use of mobile profiles. These profiles are defined through the Active Directory group policy, storing the user data in a shared resource. The mobile profile will allow the user data to become available from any Windows device: a physical desktop, virtual desktop or a Terminal Services user session. This data is loaded at the start of a session and the changes made to the profile during the session are saved upon closing it. In the case of non-persistent desktops, the use of mobile profiles is clear, since the user is assigned a new desktop in the infrastructure with each session start-up, loading the mobile profile stored in a network resource during the start-up process.

VDI advantages: support and updates

Apart from the best-known advantages brought by desktop virtualization, such as cost savings and the improvement in the management of IT resources, the deployment of virtual desktops also facilitates the work of IT administrators when they have to to give support and install updates.

The effectiveness of the support service directly impacts in the business, since the time that goes by when a PC stops operating until the issue is repaired is an inactive time for the user, so the company’s productivity is automatically affected.

In this post we continue our analysis on VDI adoption and lifecycle management of virtual desktops. In previous articles we discussed about the planning and acquisition phases, and today we talk about the deployment of the new fleet of desktops

Desktop virtualization offers a great advantage when managing computers, because with the VDI management software and from a single administration point, you can complete almost all the tasks that allow you to deploy the virtual desktops:
