The next version of the UDS Enterprise VDI broker will include a new service provider highly demanded by the community. This is Proxmox Virtual Environment, a KVM-based Open Source virtualization platform, very easy to install and manage.
The Administration and Services staff of the Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB) are using virtual desktops managed and deployed by UDS Enterprise to work from home during the health crisis due to Covid-19. “From the first day that the university closed its facilities, this solution has allowed all the staff to work remotely, accessing their work tools with a simple web browser. Thanks to UDS Enterprise, they have been able to keep on working in a very similar way as they had done at the university,” explains Xavier Pons, Head of the infrastructure area at the UIB Information Technology Center.
As we already mentioned in our blog, the University of Malaga (UMA) presented the UDS Enterprise Virtual PC Plugin in the latest edition of MoodleMoot Global. This development, carried out by the UMA IT staff in close collaboration with the UDS Enterprise team, turned Moodle into the first e-Learning platform capable of providing Windows and Linux virtual desktops and applications as if they were just another educational resource. And not only that. The integration of UDS Enterprise with OpenGnsys also allows providing remote access to physical devices regardless of their location through Moodle.

Thanks to the Remote PC project with UDS Enterprise and OpenGnsys they can use the computers located in the educational center from anywhere . To facilitate access, another important development that leverages the great versatility of the UDS Enterprise connection broker also comes into play: the Moodle VirtualPC Plugin. Students enter the UMA Virtual Campus through any device with a web browser and, from there, thanks to the VirtualPC Plugin, they are provided access to a virtual machine or a physical computer.
